Once upon a time, a young, bright eyed lady felt the best way to help people get healthier would be to become a registered dietitian, so this individual took the necessary steps to do so. Quickly after finishing the schooling, completing an internship, and passing a board exam, it was time to find a job! How exciting, the real world, wide open, full throttle. The first clinical dietitian position was fast paced and in full swing. Slowly but surely, the realization of the almost impossible task of improving the nutritional health of the masses hit the young lady in the face. Thoughts and defeat overcame her with every position she took over the next three years. Until finally, she found a trail up the impossible mountain she had once desired to overcome. The path was known as diabetes educator. After managing a diabetes program, she realized the impact of educating diabetics. The dream and spark reignited, help everyone and anyone get healthy, especially diabetes clients. This went on for about four years, when she faced a new mountain, motherhood. A beautiful task, but the most difficult one thus far. After returning to her beloved career as a clinical dietitian and diabetes educator post baby, the dream began to alter into completely new territory- being available and present with her child, and changing the health of America, one person at a time. How in the world would this ever be possible!?
Insert current situation and dream. After much prayer, discussion, and research, the woman in the previous paragraph stepped away from her 8-5 job to start a nutrition consulting business. It may seem backwards to start a business to spend more time with your family, but the vision was placed and now it is time to take steps in the direction, from dreamer to starter. The dream of helping others learn to eat healthy without compromising time and taste, while spending more time with family and managing home life better.
So welcome to my dream. I have been with the nutrition consulting business for six months now. I can say there are highs and lows. One day I find myself wondering if I have taken the right steps in my career, and the next day I know I have done the right thing when someone informs me I have changed their entire nutrition lifestyle and views of food, AND I got to spend extra time with my family in the evening! My hope or dream is now molded into the belief I CAN change and help people be a better version of themselves, AND be a very present mother in the raising of my children (currently one, but hopeful for more). The reason I made this website is for the optimizing of my business, but also encouragement of other women in their hopes of being a very present mother. I use to separate my business blog from my personal blog, but realized, people need to see how each part impacts the other- faith, family, food, fitness. Learning to balance them all and achieve a dream in the midst of it!
Happy Registered Dietitian Day to every other RD out there! May you help everyone and hear the fruits of your work on this day!
